MPO Pool Permit Renewal
The City of Dallas Code Compliance Division will begin the annual pool safety sweep from March 2, 2026 through May 31, 2026.
During this period, inspectors will check for immediate life-safety hazards, including:
Pool Enclosures (most common violations)
- Gates must be self-closing and self-latching
- No gaps or openings in fencing that allow entry
Required Emergency Equipment
- 20–24 inch U.S. Coast Guard-approved ring buoy with attached throw line
- Shepherd’s hook / rescue pole (minimum 12–16 ft)
- Reaching pole
- Working pool emergency phone
Pool Condition
- Water clarity — the pool bottom and drains must be clearly visible at all times
Important Enforcement Information
Most pool violations are considered life-safety violations. Because of this, abatement windows are very short — typically 24–48 hours — and violations may result in criminal citations.
Please begin addressing potential issues now to stay ahead of inspections. Properties should always have available:
- Locking devices or chains for pool enclosures
- Pool “Closed” signs ready for immediate use if needed
Pool Permit Renewal
All City of Dallas pool permits expire February 28 each year.
This is the time to submit renewal applications.
Please note:
- A pool permit cannot be renewed without a valid MPO (Maintenance Pool Operator) permit holder
- MPO permits are issued by the City of Dallas and are valid for 2 years
- This is different from a CPO
If your property does not currently have an MPO:
- You may temporarily use an MPO from a sister property for renewal purposes
- MPO classes are offered twice per month by the City of Dallas in English and Spanish
NOTE: You will need both of these documents valid to renew your multi-tenant annual registration as well.
