The AAGD Government Affairs Department serves as a local liaison for the legislative programs conducted by the Texas Apartment Association and the National Apartment Association.
Our team also maintains its own Political Action Committee that contributes to local, county, state, and federal level candidates who represent and advocate for the rental housing industry.

DALLAS FIRE WATCH
The PAC successfully advocated against the city mandate requiring Dallas Fire-Rescue employees to conduct Fire Watch at multi-family properties, saving our members tens of thousands of dollars.

The AAGD-led grassroots initiative resulted in defeat of the city's proposed recycling mandate, preventing undue regulations and cost increases for AAGD members with properties in the city.

Following AAGD’s advocacy efforts, the city council delayed the rate increase. The delay led to over $700,000 in cost savings for AAGD members and residents in Garland.

AAGD staff proposed an alternative ordinance to allow for less expensive equipment and a delayed implementation of the new requirements. The Mesquite City Council adopted all AAGD’s proposed changes.

AAGD’s efforts were successful in blocking the rental registration and inspection program from reaching the city council for a vote. The city council declined to consider a rental registration and inspection program in the future.

Jason has served on staff at AAGD since 2015. As Vice President of Government Affairs, he directs all federal, state, and local advocacy efforts in addition to overseeing all fundraising and strategy for the AAGD PAC.
Prior to joining AAGD, he held positions with four members of Congress, a prominent North Texas chamber of commerce, and a global public relations company. Jason earned a B.S. from Texas Wesleyan University in Fort Worth and completed his law degree at the University of Tulsa College of Law in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
