AAGD VP of Government Affairs Jason Simon on Rental Assistance
AAGD Vice President of Government Affairs Jason Simon is a proud advocate for the multifamily housing industry.
In a recent Dallas Morning News article discussing the city’s role in providing funds for eviction defense initiatives, Jason was quoted as saying “Our belief may be that most tenants facing eviction don’t necessarily need a lawyer, they need rent money, and lawyers aren’t rent. Our perspective was if we could get dollars into the hands of renters to pay their rent, that would be the best kind of policy solution.”
This is in light of a recent budget approval from the City of Dallas to allocate $500,000 to support eviction defense legal services for Dallas tenants.
Jason went on to say that legal defense isn’t a core function of government and that rental assistance helps people pay rent and keeps clients housed, while eviction defense delays the process.
