AAGD Executive Director Kin Oldham Honored with 2025 NAA Lifetime Achievement Award
AAGD Executive Director Kin Oldham has been announced as this year’s recipient of the NAA Lifetime Achievement Award in the association staff category. His commitment to advancing the industry has made a significant impact on legislative changes and public policy initiatives on the state, local and national levels.
Advocacy Efforts
Part of Kin’s role as AAGD Executive Director is supporting the association’s Government Affairs Team and their advocacy efforts regarding legislation affecting the rental housing industry.
Under his leadership, the AAGD team has successfully curtailed numerous costly and harmful ordinances at the local level, including the Dallas eviction ordinance. This ordinance would have negatively affected property owners by extending the eviction process for nonpaying residents. Other successes include mitigating the detrimental effects of the Dallas rental inspection program. After contributing to the defeat of the program, Kin and the Government Affairs Team advocated for a new system that allows rental property owners who meet certain criteria to conduct their own building inspections. This time and cost-saving measure has helped propel both the availability and affordability of multifamily housing for DFW renters, while protecting AAGD members from burdensome and unnecessary regulation.
At the state level, Kin assisted in organizing a group of AAGD owner/manager members to travel to the Texas Capitol in Austin to testify in support of Texas Senate Bill 38, also known as the ‘Squatters Bill’. As a result of this effort – in addition to other measures taken under his guidance – SB 38 was signed into law in June 2025. This historic new law creates a significantly more efficient eviction process for Texas landlords dealing with squatters and nonpaying renters.
Along with meeting with elected officials and participating in open exchanges with policymakers, Kin also leads the largest annual NAAPAC fundraisers in the nation, the AAGD Business Exchange. This year, this event brought in a total of $170,000 in donations for NAAPAC. Additionally, he assists in bringing in donations from AAGD members for the association’s own PAC through leading several annual networking events and a member-to-member PAC fundraising program, which raises more than $150,000 a year to support state and local candidates who support the rental housing industry in North Texas. The funds raised from events such as these are what help drive change in our industry from the local to national level by providing the means necessary to enact change.
Association and Community Involvement
Kin has a long history of giving back to the industry through his volunteer efforts. For the last 20 years, he has served in various NAA volunteer leadership roles, and his industry insight and expertise has benefited numerous association committees ranging from Legislative, Budget and Finance, Affordable Housing, Global Outreach, Apartmentalize, and Advocate.
Beyond his service with NAA, he has also chaired multiple AAGD committees and served as president of AAGD prior to being selected as AAGD Executive Director.
Since Kin’s time as AAGD Executive Director, he has guided the association toward building up underserved communities. One of the most impactful ways he has led AAGD in displaying its commitment to this mission is by facilitating a partnership with Entryway, a national nonprofit that provides a pathway to economic self-sufficiency for individuals at risk of or experiencing situational homelessness. After investing over $100,000 in seed money to bring Entryway to North Texas, AAGD continues to collaborate with the organization by providing numerous resources for program participants. In honor of his dedication and leadership, Kin received the Entryway Industry Partner of the Year Award for 2025.
Recognizing His Contributions
Demonstrated by his level of industry collaboration, community engagement, and willingness to get involved, Kin has proven himself dedicated to building lasting relations to create meaningful change. He will be formally recognized this November at NAA’s annual Assembly of Delegates in Atlanta for his exemplary national service and contributions he’s made to advancing the rental housing industry.
