Technicians who purchase and handle refrigerants and maintain HVAC systems
9th. Section 608 of the Federal Clean Air Act requires that all persons who maintain, service, repair or dispose of appliances that contain regulated substances be certified in proper refrigerant handling techniques. Technicians are required to pass an EPA-approved test to earn Section 608 Technician Certification. The tests are specific to the type of equipment the technician seeks to work on. Tests must be administered by an EPA-approved certifying organization. Section 608 Technician Certification credentials do not expire.
The Apartment Association of Greater Dallas is an approved provider for this EPA course thru the ESCO Institute! Attend this class if you need to obtain the EPA Type I, Type II, Type III, or Universal HVAC certification. This class is a review of the New EPA 608 course workbook or as a refresher course in preparation for the exam administered during the second day.
To earn any of the certifications the CORE exam must be passed along with at least one of the following:
- Type I – Persons who maintain, service, or repair small appliances must be certified as Type I technicians.
- Type II – Persons who maintain, service, repair, or dispose of the medium-, high-, or very high-pressure appliances (except small appliances, MVACs, and MVAC-like appliances) must be certified as Type II technicians.
- Type III – Persons who maintain, service, repair, or dispose of low-pressure appliances must be certified as Type III technicians.
Tests will be administered online in conjunction with ProctorU, who partners with ESCO Institute to provide virtual proctored environments. At the end of the course students will receive test codes and instructions and will be able to schedule their proctored exam immediately. Students will have 30 days from the day of the class to pass the exam. Retests are provided by AAGD at an additional cost of $75.00.
