Rental Assistance Programs in our Local Cities and Counties

The AAGD Government Affairs team is actively working with local officials to find and alert our members of rental assistance programs available in our local cities and counties. Below you will find a list of information received as of today. As the AAGD staff is alerted to additional programs, we will add the information to this page.

On July 28, 2021, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau released an online tool to help landlords and residents access rental assistance in their states and cities. Click here to view the Rental Assistance Finder.

COUNTIES

Dallas County

Funding 

  • Amount Per Eligible Household: Up to $1,500 for 6 months - including number of months assisted in CY2020
  • Funding Recipient: Landlord

Collin County

Funding 

  • Collin Cares Website
  • Amount Per Eligible Household: Up to 12 months of assistance (measured from March 13, 2020), plus an additional 3 months if the applicant is able to demonstrate that the extra months are needed to ensure housing stability and funds are available
  • Rental and utility assistance will be provided up to the maximum number of month’s allowed or $20,000, whichever is less
  • Funding Recipient: Landlord

Eligibility Criteria

Residents

  • Qualifies for unemployment due to COVID‐19, has experienced a reduction in household income due to COVID‐19, or has incurred significant costs due to COVID‐19 or experienced a financial hardship due to COVID‐19
  • Demonstrates a risk of experiencing homelessness or housing instability
  • Has a household income at or below 80% of the area median

Landlord

  • A written request for participation will be sent by certified mail to the landlord or utility provider to request the landlord or utility provider’s participation.
  • Only where the landlord or utility provider does not respond within the timeline set by the U.S. Department of Treasury guidance may funds be paid directly to the eligible household to be used exclusively for eligible expenses

Denton County

Funding 

Eligibility Criteria

  • AMI %: Assistance to eligible households will be prioritized based on household income including benefits. Households with total income at or below 50% Denton County Area Median Income will be given the highest priority for assistance.
  • Residents must show that they have been adversely affected by COVID-19 Pandemic (loss of job, reduced hours, reduction in pay, increased healthcare expenses, added childcare expenses)
  • Residents may not receive additional CARES Act funds from other agency

Eligibility Criteria

Residents

  • AMI %: up to 80% 
  • Resident must live in the City of Dallas
  • Have been financially impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, either through a job loss or lost income
  • Be at risk of experiencing homelessness or housing instability (e.g., received eviction notice, have past-due rent, living in an unstable housing situation)
  • Be a citizen or eligible non citizen
  • Be renting — cannot be the owner of the property

Property Manager

  • Landlords with eligible residents who are behind on their rent and/or need help with future payments can begin the application process on behalf of their tenants.
  • To apply, landlords should have their W-9 and the tenant’s lease information available.
  • The CARES Act rent assistance funding is through the City of Dallas and is not affiliated with the Housing Choice Voucher program. Your eligible/approved tenants would receive temporary rent assistance without any obligations.

  • Has a household income at or below 80 percent of the area median income.
  • Must be a City of Frisco resident (City of Frisco is the billing municipality for water)

Landlords

  • Must submit a landlord attestation once resident submits application

  • Assistance is available only for residents of the City of Garland
Grand Prairie

Funding 

Eligibility Criteria

  • Grand Prairie Resident
  • Combined household income equal to or below 80% of the medium income of their respective county
  • Financially impacted by COVID-19 (loss of job, reduced hours, reduction in pay, increased healthcare expenses, added childcare expenses, etc.
  • Cannot have participated in another CARES funded assistance program
  • Must furnish a photo ID, proof of residency, financial and household information
  • Valid bill for rent, mortgage, and/or utilities must be provided
  • Assistance will be provided to the landlord, lender, and/or utility company directly after applicant has been verified and approved. In no circumstance will an applicant be provided funding directly
