Take Action Today to End the Eviction Moratorium
On March 29, the CDC extended its federal moratorium on evictions. The moratorium was scheduled to expire on March 31, but it is now extended until June 30, 2021.
AAGD and NAA are strongly opposed to the eviction moratorium because it exacerbates the challenge faced by owners/managers of rental property and their residents, and it does nothing to address the crisis of unpaid rent that has accumulated over the past year and threatens housing affordability for all.
Over the past year, AAGD and NAA have advocated with members of Congress for emergency rental assistance funding that is paid directly to owners/managers of rental property to help pay their bills while keeping residents in their homes.
AAGD and NAA are very grateful that Congress passed legislation that included more than $50 billion in rental assistance to be administered by state and local governments as quickly as possible.
However, national studies show that there is more than $57 billion in unpaid rent from 2020. And another extension of the eviction moratorium does nothing to address this growing threat to our industry and our ability to provide safe, affordable housing to millions of renters.
To that end, NAA has launched a grassroots campaign to urge Congress to ask the White House to end the moratorium. Take action today and ask your members of Congress to support ending the federal eviction moratorium.
