• The Donna Derden Education Scholarship

    Every year the AAGD Education Foundation provides scholarships to  worthy NAAEI designation students. This scholarship fund provides professionals in the multi-family industry with financial assistance toward professional growth through the NAAEI designation program. Competition for these scholarships is based on financial need and a commitment to earning the designation.


    The AAGD Education Foundation will agree to reimburse the total cost of the certificate program NALP, CAM, CAS, CAPS, CAMT for the candidates that meet the financial requirements, completed the online application by the deadline and have completed and passed all requirements of the designation they are enrolled in. Deadline for applications is November 1st.

    The A.C.T. Program is free to students through the AAGD Education Foundation and program partners, Realpage, Exclusive Personnel  and The Liberty Group. Limited space is available per program period.

    Introducing the Gerry Henigsman US Veteran Scholarship

    The Apartment Association of Greater Dallas Education Foundation has created a new scholarship program for apartment industry employees who are honorably discharged military veterans. This scholarship was named in honor of former AAGD Executive Vice President, Gerry Henigsman, who played a key role in shaping and growing education and careers during his more than 22 years in service to AAGD and the Apartment Industry.

    Who is Gerry Henigsman? Gerry Henigsman, CAPS, served as Executive Vice President of the Apartment Association of Greater Dallas for 22 years prior to his retirement in December 2013. During this time he helped develop a premier Legislative Affairs program that reduced fees and operating costs for apartment owners; created a new AAGD Career Center; and developed a Hispanic Task Force for outreach to Dallas’ expanding Hispanic community. Under his leadership, AAGD received several NAA Paragon Awards - an annual program recognizing local associations - for their community service, education and government affairs efforts. In addition to his work with AAGD, Henigsman served on numerous committees and task forces for the City of Dallas, the National Apartment Association and the Texas Apartment Association. He was named TAA Association Executive of the Year three times. In 2000, Henigsman also was named NAA Association Executive of the Year.  In 2013, Henigsman received the first Association Executive Lifetime achievement Award from NAA.  Henigsman served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam era.

    The Gerry Henigsman U.S. Military Scholarship covers tuition for a National Apartment Association Educational Institute (NAAEI) Designation Course selected by the scholarship applicant.

    The scholarship program is only open to apartment industry employees* who—like Henigsman --are military veterans. This is a merit based scholarship.

    Anthony V. Pusateri Apartment Career Promotion Fund


    The Pusateri Family has designated a memorial fund in Tony’s name. The NAAEI Anthony V. Pusateri Apartment Career Promotion Fund will support the programs and initiatives that Tony was so passionate about. This fund will be used to promote apartment leasing, maintenance and management careers to high school and college students, military veterans, military spouses and career changers. 

    MYCAA Program

    Spouses of military members are also strong candidates for careers in the apartment industry because of its high degree of career portability. When military families are transferred, civilian spouses who have a career in the apartment industry often have an easy time finding another job in the industry. In fact, now that most military housing is privatized, military spouses can even be employed in leasing, maintenance and management positions on base.

    This in mind AAGD is proud to feature the MYCAA program. The Military Spouse Career Advancement Accounts (MyCAA) Program is a career development and employment assistance program sponsored by the Department of Defense (DoD).  MyCAA helps military spouses pursue a license, certificate, certification or Associate’s Degree necessary for gainful employment in a high demand, high growth portable career field and occupation.

    The MyCAA program provides up to $4,000 in financial assistance with up to $2,000 a year to eligible military spouses for education and training. Approved National Apartment Association Education Institute (NAAEI) designation programs are:

    • National Apartment Leasing Professional (NALP)
    • Certified Apartment Manager (CAM)
    • Certificate for Apartment Maintenance Technicians (CAMT)
